(MURFREESBORO)  Learn about  “Ötzi: The Life, Death, and Tattoos of the 5,300-year-old Chalcolithic Iceman” in a free public talk at 2:00 o'clock this Sunday afternoon (8/27/2023).  Prehistoric Archaeologist Aaron Deter-Wolf is the guest of the Rutherford County Archaeological Society. The presentation will be in Maney Hall at Oaklands Mansion (900 N. Maney Ave.).  As you recall, Prehistoric Archaeologist Deter-Wolf was heavily involved in the 2014 stud .

Public invited to Memorial dedication for Slaves in Unmarked Graves

(MURFREESBORO) The African-American Heritage Society of Rutherford County is unveiling and dedication of a memorial to those enslaved on Oaklands Plantation and other individuals buried in unmarked graves that are located in section M of Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro. The event will take place next week at 10:00 o'clock Saturday morning (6/24/2023) in Section M at Evergreen Cemetery. SATURDAY in MURFREESBORO: Collections Manager for the Tennessee Division of Archaeology to present Guardians of Antiquity: The Care and Preservation of Archaeological Collections

The Rutherford County Archaeological Society (RCAS) invites the public to attend a free special presentation at their meeting this Saturday, March 26, 1:00pm at the Oaklands Mansion event room, 900 N. Maney Avenue, Murfreesboro, TN.  Macie Orrand, the new Collections Manager for the Tennessee Division of Archaeology, will present “Guardians of Antiquity: The Care and Preservation of Archaeological Collections.” Macie is responsible for curating and caring for artifacts .
