In May 2018, then Taoiseach Leo Varadkar stood in the Dáil and pledged that no more of the women who had been betrayed by the State in the Cervical Check scandal would be forced to go to court to seek justice.
Last week, not for the first time, that promise was shown to be utterly worthless when, racked by emotion, mum-of-two Lynsey Bennett addressed the media outside the High Court.
Ms Bennett – who had been described in the court as ‘a person of great courage’ – had just settled her action against the HSE.
The young mother tearfully described how the end of her “big battle” with the State, the HSE and the State Claims Agency would finally allow her to focus on her fight to stay alive.
The arrival of sexual health charity Brook in Northern Ireland in the early 1990s was controversial to say the least. The proposal to open up a Brook clinic in Belfast city centre was even debated in Parliament, with a range of Northern Ireland MPs expressing concern that it would lead to young people engaging in sex outside of marriage.

Following yesterday s High Court settlement of the case brought by brave Longford mum Lynsey Bennett, who is seriously ill with cancer, against the HSE, women s health campaign Vicky Phelan has taken to twitter this morning to vent her anger over why there was NO admission of liability and NO apology from either the HSE or the lab involved .
Ms Phelan, who is currently undergoing treatment with a new cancer drug in Maryland, United States, in a lengthy twitter thread commented,
