PAPUA NEW GUINEA TELIKOM WORKERS TOLD TO END STRIKE Submitted by admin on Tue, 10/27/1998 - 00:00 By Ruth Konia and Cyril Gare PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (October 26, 1998 - The National) -The National Court on Saturday ordered the striking members of the Papua New Guinea Communication Works Union (PNGCWU) back to work, saying that the current dispute is between the workers and the State, not the employers. Telikom (PNG) Ltd., which claimed it was losing about K 1 million (US$ 461,000) a day since October 15, took out the court injunction after the workers voted in a secret ballot on Friday to strike over a log of claims, including the transfer of about K 20 million (US$ 9.22 million) by the State to members individual contributions in the National Provident Fund (NPF).
