(CNS News) Arizona s Republican governor, Doug Ducey, signed a bill into law on Tuesday that outlaws the abortion of unborn babies that have genetic abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, and abortion based on sex or race of the child. Exceptions apply when the child has a lethal fetal condition or when the mother s life or health is at risk, said the governor s office.
“There’s immeasurable value in every single life regardless of genetic makeup,” said Governor Ducey in a press release. “We will continue to prioritize protecting life in our preborn children, and this legislation goes a long way in protecting real human lives. My sincere thanks to Senator Nancy Barto for her leadership and work on this life-saving issue.”

A three-judge panel on a federal appellate court struck down several pro-life laws in Arkansas, and two of the judges have called on the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit its ruling in a major abortion case that upheld
Roe v. Wade.
The ruling by three judges on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals prevents two pro-life laws passed by the state in 2019 from going into effect. One of the laws prohibits abortions after 18 weeks gestation while the other prohibits abortion of a child based solely on a diagnosis of Down syndrome.
Judge Baker renews order blocking four Arkansas anti-abortion laws
Judge Kristine Baker has renewed her order blocking enforcement of four Arkansas anti-abortion laws.
She’d blocked them once before and the 8th Circuit lifted that order saying she needed to provide more analysis of the laws’ obvious damaging impact on abortions by
Little Rock Family Planning Services, the only medical abortion provider in the state.

One of the laws blocks the safest and most commonly used medical procedure for abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy. It’s the only method the clinic uses in the second trimester and its enforcement would effectively end such abortions in Arkansas.
