minute to finish this conversation while they ready. ari is having a little bit of technical difficulty, but will be here at any moment. claire, on the security piece, do you think capitol police retain any veto power if it does what you said it does and jeopardizes the lives of the current members of congress of both parties? i don t think they probably have veto power since they serve at the pleasure of the architect of the capitol and you know, i don t think anybody is going to tell the speaker of the house that he can t release video. i think needs to happen is the american people need to tell kevin mccarthy that you can t just shovel video to a favored outlet and allow them to pick among 40,000 hours and find pieces that will be misleading or tell an untrue picture of what actually happened that day. so the most important thing that has to happen now is first, he has to be spurned for what he did because it s ridiculously bad and stupid, but secondly, people need to
ukrainians because this isn t just a war of territorial occupation and it s a war of annihilation, so every day that he s still there he has not been shut down by the west and the allies is a good day for him. ruth, how do you see the president s week this week? he tomorrow will deliver a speech in warsaw. we saw him disembark air force one in warsaw. there is a pep in any president s trip like that especially one that was kept secret until it was safe to let it out. what is the importance of these two pillars of this week, the trip to kyiv and tomorrow s speech in warsaw? it couldn t be more symbolic and it also is his courage. it was a risky trip to take, and they walked around in broad daylight in kyiv, and that sends a message that he s always
the 4:00 p.m. hour, my program, that there was this deconfliction channel. what does that sound like? it s a defense department term, nicole and it dates to 2015 when the russians entered syria, and of course, we already had troops in there in certain parts of syria and we wanted to make sure we didn t suddenly end up at war with russia because of some inadvert int rule of military force against an airplane or mostly u.s. folks on the ground. so it s really just, you let them know kind of last minute so that they don t strike you by accident and again launching a war. ruth, ken burns made the point in the last hour that there s such incredible activity in american politics where an american president who has either in the senate or the vice
ever, attend and it included some of the allies of the former president like representative ronnie jackson. so there were people there who were listening and you know, i would imagine care about the transatlantic relationship because they were there and nevertheless, we don t necessarily think of them in that light. so i think there s a little ray of hope, but i am, of course, alarmed by what you covered in your last segment when you talked about the speaker releasing surveillance footage to tucker carlson who as we know absolutely doesn t tell the truth on his program and frankly spreads kremlin messages. so it is a dangerous moment for us. we are lucky to have the two of you to sift through fact from fiction on the other network there. evelyn farcas, ruth, thank you for being with me. i know you were expecting ari.
