Think only of the dazzling cavalcade of Russian writers: Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Turgenev, Goncharov, Leskov, Chekhov, and then, later, Isaac Babel, Boris Pasternak, Anna Akhmatova, Osip Mandelstam, Vasily Grossman, and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.
