The exclusion of transgender athletes will come into effect from March 31 and was confirmed by president Lord Coe at Thursday’s World Athletics Council meeting.
Russian track and field athletes, banned by World Athletics in
November 2015 following the revelations of a concerted home doping
regime, account for almost a quarter of the names on the latest
overall list of offenders issued by the Athletics Integrity Unit
(AIU).
An independent audit on the cultural changes within Russian Athletics
Federation in terms of making progress towards international
reinstatement will be conducted in "mid-to-late October", the World
Athletics Council has ruled.
The World Athletics Council is set to discuss the ongoing suspension
of the Russian Athletics Federation at its meeting prior to the World
Championships in Eugene.
World Athletics has confirmed that the Russian Athletics Federation is
now fully up to date with all of its overdue payments for costs
related to work on its reinstatement.
