TOKYO (Reuters) -Russian Evgeny Rylov said the sky was the limit after breaking his country’s barren gold medal spell in men’s swimming by pipping team mate Kliment Kolesnikov and American defending champion Ryan Murphy in a thrilling 100m backstroke in Tokyo.
Touching the wall in 51.98 seconds, 0.02 ahead of Kolesnikov, Rylov became the first Russian man to win an Olympic swimming gold since the Atlanta Games in 1996 when Alexander Popov and Denis Pankratov both topped the podium twice.
