When they were about to leave the premises, Venerable Lewelle Dhammalankara Thero highlighted the risk posed to the locals upon the arrival of the Ukrainian tourists. “This visit was organized without informing the Mahanayake’s of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters, and even the governor of the central province,” the Venerable Thero alleged.

A total of 394 Ukrainians arrived in Sri Lanka on two separate occasions and following their arrival at the Mattala International Airport, they were moved to several hotels in the Southern Province. Rajiv Sooriyaarachchi, Vice Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited speaking to News 1st said the tourists were only permitted to arrive after completing a PCR test adding, thereafter there is a possibility of them contracting the virus.
