Employees from Trane Technologies were at Goose Island to gather waste from the waters near the park.
The effort came at the start of the annual River Clean Up in La Crosse.
More than 700,000 pounds of trash have been removed from local waterways since the effort started in 1993.
Getting rid of garbage can have a domino effect on people’s actions.
“When there is a lot of garbage it begets more garbage. When it’s clean when somebody comes to a sandbar and it’s clean, they tend to want to keep it clean,” said River Clean Up committee member Russell H. Wilson.
