Saturday, May 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the day before Mother’s Day, University of Illinois Extension will be offering guided wildflower walks at the Natural Resource Education Center (NREC) in Russell Woods Forest Preserve. Russell Woods is located 1 mile west of Genoa on state route 72. The Natural Resource Education Center (NREC) is at the end of the forest preserve road. The guided walks will be on the hour starting at 10 a.m. with the last one at 1 p.m.

University of Illinois Extension along with the DeKalb County Forest Preserve and the DeKalb County Soil and Water are having their first ever free outdoor NatureFest on Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at Russell Woods Forest Preserve. <br/><br/>This is a nature open house so come and go as it fits your schedule. Russell Woods is located one mile west of Genoa on state route 72. The rain date is Sunday the 24th in case of severe weather.
<br/>Everyone is welcome to visit Russell Woods Forest Preserve and the re-opening of the Natural Resource Education Center (NREC). For families with elementary age children, there will be up to thirteen activity tables throughout the preserve. <br/>Check in at the registration table under the open air shelter or at the NREC to pick up your NatureFest passport and map of the area. Each table will have a short hands on learning activity and a volunteer to guide the experience and stamp your passport.
