Metro, election commission take council tax amendment to court

Both types of proposed charter amendments have been argued in Chancellor Russell Perkins’ courtroom this week. After a daylong trial on Monday over charter amendments proposed by 4 Good Government, the legal brawl over amendments to appear on a July 27 ballot continued Wednesday. This time, attorneys representing Metro government and the Davidson County Election Commission argued whether it would be legal to put a proposal from the Metro Council on the ballot. Key to the arguments on both sides are the timeline of when proposals were filed and deadlines for a scheduled election. On March 25, attorney Jim Roberts filed voter petition signatures with the Metro clerk for the 4 Good Government proposals.
