Jesse Crumbley takes trophy in Kotzebue-Kiana sled race February 18th |
Sunshine and one of the mildest days of the month greeted the more than 30 sled racers who took to the snow to travel the 175-mile-loop between Kotzebue and Kiana on Saturday.
Jesse Crumbley took home the overall winner trophy with a race time of 1 hour, 59:36 minutes racing in the 600plus liquid-open class.
For his efforts, Crumbley took home a $1,250 purse, plus $3,250 for winning his class. He was helped by his brother, Chris Collins.
The win is a victory for the brother duo, who raced together last year in the Iron Dog, but had to scratch after Crumbley suffered a crash outside of Kiana. While his brother has competed in prior Iron Dogs, 2020 was Crumbley s first attempt.
