We have been watching this for a few minutes. You can see people right there with a stroller carried out of the water there. Weve also seen people carrying elderly. Weve seen airboats, jet skis, motor boats. 18 wheelers covered past the windows. This is really a remarkable sight in this area. We understand we understand what this is, is people leaving, walking off a nearby interstate. I think we have a wide shot where you can see the scope of what this is. Theres a wider shot of whats going on right now. Again, the airboat driving past there. We have a motor boat, jet skis there. And right in the middle, an 18 wheeler just covered. And then theres the people trying to walk through this, trying to get to safety, trying to help each other out. You can only imagine this scene is being played out across the houston area right now. Near the barker reservoir. Thats on the west side of houston, a couple miles from where i am. Officials are urging people to leave their homes as soon as they can this morning because the water levels at this reservoir are now in imminent danger of tipping over and flooding these neighborhoods and homes. The order comes as the Houston Fire Department begins doortodoor searches of every single home in the hardest hit parts of this city, looking for people who may have stayed behind or have been lost. Were also tracking two other breaking stories. There are reports of explosions at a flooded Chemical Plant in crosby, texas. Its about 25 miles northeast of houston. Ten sheriffs deputies had to be rushed to the hospital after inhaling some of those chemicals. This as another emergency unfolds in beaumont. Meanwhile, many residents in other neighborhoods are returning to their homes and removing piles of debris and putting them curbside. They will visit a Disaster Relief center and meet with storm survivors and then greet texas congressional delegation members before leaving for louisiana. Later on today, the president and first lady will meet with the louisiana delegation visit with the National Guard and with the volunteer group known as the cajun navy. Since this morning. Fema put out this figure, 90 of the structures have some form of damage i talked to an official from key west who said that was too high an estimate. What do you think . Its so interesting because the structures that are along the Atlantic Ocean which took the brunt of the force are those on the inside that took the dirty edge, are fortified. Some of the steepest damage is inside these keys where the houses arent as structurally strong. Ill show you some video of marathon key. We went ashore. I saw this building that had looked like laundry hanging from the railings and thought boy, theres a sign of life and went there. It is so stunning to see what the waves did with all the sand.
