Images of troops, tanks and heavy artillery on the move in south-western Russia in recent days have stoked fears of renewed hostilities in eastern Ukraine.
The deployment reportedly includes several military units, tanks and heavy artillery. Last week, Gen. Ruslan Khomchak, commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, told the country’s parliament that Russia had amassed 28 tactical battalions along the border, which would amount to up to 25,000 troops.
Ukraine does not seek escalation of situation in Donbas - NSDC secretary

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Ruslan Khomchak and Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, met at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy.
“During the visit, the parties discussed the situation in the area of the Joint Force Operation and the general security situation around Ukraine. They also discussed the reform of the Armed Forces and the transformation of the training system in the framework of the NATO approaches. In turn, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee assured the Ukrainian side of further support for Ukraine by the North Atlantic Alliance,” the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on the Facebook page.
