Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Saturday said that he has reviewed the security arrangements with DIG Rupnagar Range and Senior Superintendent of Police Fatehgarh Sahib for the smooth conduct of Shaheedi Jor Mela in the district.
To instil a sense of confidence among people, the Rupnagar Range police carried out a special cordon and search operation in three districts, including Rupnagar, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib, and detained 93 persons on suspicion. Weapons and cash were also seized from the suspects.
The police claimed to have seized a consignment of 11 weapons allegedly smuggled by International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) chief Lakhbir Singh Rode from Pakistan.
Two labourers died while two others were injured in a wall collapse at an under-construction showroom in Mohali City Center being built on Mohali Airport road, said police on Sunday.
