The Rupee has lost 17 paise in the two trading sessions to June 9 The rupee declined by 8 paise to end at 72.97 against the U.S. currency on June 9 in its second straight day of losses amid a lacklustre trend in domestic equities.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened on a negative note at 72.90 per dollar as against its previous close of 72.89. It hovered in the range of 72.88 to 73.02 per dollar during the day before ending at 72.97.
The domestic currency has lost 17 paise in the two trading sessions to June 9.
The local unit traded in a narrow range amid lack of any major data on June 9 in the domestic and the international markets, traders said.
On June 4, the rupee had settled at 72.99 against the U.S. dollar The rupee surged 12 paise to 72.87 against the U.S. dollar in opening trade on June 7 following weakness in the greenback overseas and a positive trend in the domestic equities.
Besides, lower crude prices also supported the domestic unit, dealers said.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened strong at 72.85 against the dollar and lost some ground to touch 72.87 in early deals, a rise of 12 paise over its previous close.
On Friday, the rupee had settled at 72.99 against the U.S. dollar.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.03% to 90.11.
On April 28, the rupee had settled at 74.36 against the U.S. dollar The Indian rupee appreciated by 26 paise to 74.10 against the U.S. dollar in opening trade on April 29, tracking positive domestic equities and weak American currency.
At the interbank Forex market, the local unit opened at 74.20 against the U.S. dollar, then gained further and touched 74.10, registering a rise of 26 paise over its previous close.
On April 28, the rupee had settled at 74.36 against the American currency.
The rupee started on a stronger note against the greenback after the dovish statement by the U.S. Federal Reserve weighed on the greenback, Reliance Securities said in a research note adding that the strength of the equity markets also supported the local unit.
