reporter: victor, erica, this is the newest level of scrutiny after these repeat close calls involving commercial flights at major airports, six incidents this year have investigations by the national transportation safety board. but, this audit calls out three of the most egregious cases like the january incident at jfk where quick action stopped the departing delta flight from running into an american airlines flight that was taxiing across the runway in front of it. the federal aviation administration called for new training for air traffic controllers, but now the department of transportation s independent inspector general wants to know if all of that is enough. the inspector s review will also look at how the faa tracks and analyzes data about these so-called runway incursions.
