After sitting in the bush alone for three days, office worker Grant Willocks decided to take up teaching, now after 17 years as principal of Temuka Primary School he is leaving.
“I went back and opened the bedroom window and basically flung myself out,” he said.

Two homes were destroyed in an early morning blaze on Hall Jones St, Runanga. Once outside, McKinnon became distraught about his two dogs left inside as the fire grew out of control. “There was no way I could get back inside that house. The flames were so big,” he said. Firefighters battled the blaze for about three hours. “I lost the dogs. I wish they were still here. “Arlo was nearly 4 and should have had 10 years left. I didn’t know what life was until I got that little girl. I had her since she was born,” he said.
