Jordanian author Jalal Barjas wins International Prize for Arabic Fiction Barjas bags top Arabic fiction prize for his novel ‘Notebooks of the Bookseller’ By Joy Mazahreh - May 27,2021 - Last updated at May 27,2021 Jalal Barjas AMMAN Jordanian author Jalal Barjas won the 14th edition of the prestigious International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) on Tuesday for his novel “Notebooks of the Bookseller”. In an interview with The Jordan Times, Barjas said: “This win is not for Barjas only, but for the Jordanian novel and its influence on Arab culture and Arabic literature.” In addition to receiving $50,000, additional funds will be provided to translate his work to English.

The novel, published by The Arabic Institute for Research and Publishing, was named as this year’s winner by Chair of Judges Chawki Bazih during a virtual winner ceremony. In addition to being awarded USD $50,000, funding will be provided for the English translation of Notebooks of the Bookseller, and Barjas can expect to see an increase in book sales and international recognition.
