Germany could introduce carbon-neutral neighborhoods, with features including electrolysers for hydrogen production in addition to fuel cells, with the opening of Vonovia’s Energy Centre of the Future (EZZ).
A leading German housing company, Vonovia, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia stated a joint commitment on Friday (23rd April) to introduce carbon-neutral neighborhoods through innovation and research.
The neighborhoods are part of a scheme to decarbonise Vonovia estates with adjacent buildings and households capable of being supplied with at least 60% carbon-free heating on a self-sufficient basis.
To achieve this, the implementation of electrolysers will support the production of hydrogen from electric power as well as the inclusion of fuel cells and heat pumps.
