In order to do that, i look at the topography of the past and i try to identify fault lines that other people have not seen. This book is a case in point. When i begin a project, i know very little about my topics. As i begin to do the research, i go on a treasure hunt. That is the way i like to look at it. I use primary sources in order to gather the material i need to write nonfiction books that not only inaccurate but hopefully interesting. When i began to look into a book about George Washington and decided to write this book i began with George Washington in the very same way. I knew very little about washington. I had heard of course that he had chopped down a cherry tree, which he didnt, and i had heard that he worked with which he did it. And i heard that he had wooden teeth, which he didnt. So i found out very quickly the things i thought i knew about George Washington were absolutely not any of them correct. So as i began the book which i described as csis meets the biography channel, as you will see why as we go along, it has been a treat for me to replace all of those myths with the facts about George Washington.
