Medieval festivities to launch Richmond 950

TORRENTIAL rain and a smattering of sleet could not dampen the spirits of the crowds who turned out to support the launch of the celebrations of Richmond s 950th anniversary. Marking the building of Richmond Castle in 1071, as well as the birth and growth of the market town, the organisers of Richmond 950 have put on an array of events spanning the whole year. Not even a pandemic could put off plans completely, although the launch was originally planned to be earlier in the year before the winter lockdown was announced. On Saturday, despite the inclement weather, scores of residents and visitors to the town enjoyed a historic market, including traditional pottery, medieval ales, and Tom Fool and Lord Flame providing entertainment with stilt walking, jestering and and jokes.

Panama City passes development plan for Glenwood community

The revised plan includes a municipal aquatic center at an undetermined location within the city that will be accessible to Glenwood residents; an African-American cultural center that will be built as a free-standing building or within a citywide cultural center; a rebuild and expansion of the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center at its current location; and more consideration for limiting the number of stories of buildings along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. However, according to Wood, it was preferred by the coalition of civic organizations that the African-American cultural center be its own building and for the aquatic center to be located specifically in Glenwood.
