Eddie 9-volt Unleashes His Bluesy Soul with “3AM in Chicago”
Eddie 9-volt unleashes some hot Georgia soul on “3AM in Chicago”, a single from his upcoming album,
Little Black Flies.
Eddie 9-volt grew up south of Atlanta, in Georgia, a state noted for its legendary soul men: Otis Redding and Little Richard. From an early age, the region’s sounds beckoned to the budding musician, and he began playing Atlanta clubs at 15. It’s nine years later, and Eddie 9-volt has grown into his Southern, hot soul sound.
Little Black Flies is Eddie 9-volt’s new album releasing on 28 May via Ruf Records, and it’s a barnstormer with upbeat tracks laden with horns and good time fun.
Louisiana Red (4 out of 5 stars) This is great music. Though a 2009 release, this could have been recorded anytime in the last 50 years. This has the feel of the old Sun Studios recordings and is filled with fine guitar, harp and lots of terrific, gritty, raw electric music. Red wrote all of the tunes on this one and incorporates some of his life experiences as he has in the past. I enjoyed every track on this CD.
Red has played with many of the greats over the years and those influences are present here as Muddy and Elmore James seem to be lurking in the background with a guiding spirit and I m pretty sure Howlin Wolf would be smiling at this one, as well. If you like your blues downhome and rockin , try this one out and don t be surprised if you play it a few times in a row. Beautiful stuff and thanks to Ruf Records for putting this cracking good CD out.

By Mike Greenblatt She’s so cute. How could she play such ball-busting guitar? Obviously, her two attributes are not diametrically opposed. Ally Venable sings up a storm, writes her own material, and is said to be an onstage blockbuster. At 21, this Texas Tornado is on her fourth album.
(Ruf Records) picks up where 2019’s
Texas Honey left off. Produced by Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Huey Lewis & The News, Santana, Steve Miller Band), it’s filled with blistering riffs and hot guest shots by Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Devon Allman. The highlight has to be her “Hateful Blues,” spit-sung with a clenched fist. And how cool is her pick of the Bill Withers classic “Use Me”? She not only nails it but adds her style of sass.
