An 85-year-old former doctor convicted on sex abuse and child porn charge has been sentenced to life in prison.
Ruepert Don Bryan, a former ear, nose and throat physician in Alabaster, was convicted in March of first-degree sex abuse and three counts of producing child pornography. Shelby County Circuit Judge Bill Bostick sentenced Bryan to life in prison plus an additional 208 years.
“The conduct that you engaged in is reprehensible,’ Bostick told Bryan. “It cannot be allowed in our society.”
Attorneys for Bryan argued that he should not punished further because of his age. Bryan has been in the Shelby County Jail on $500,000 bond since his 2016 arrest.

COLUMBIANA, Ala. (AP) - A former Alabama doctor arrested when authorities sought the public’s help identifying a man shown in an obscene video was convicted on charges of sexually abusing children and producing child pornography, a prosecutor said Thursday.
Ruepert Don Bryan, 85, of Calera, was ordered held without bond after his conviction, which followed a three-day trial in Shelby County.
District Attorney Jill Lee said in a statement that jurors saw evidence that included numerous recordings Bryan made as he sexually abused children.
