The chief of police of Calbayog City and nine other policemen were sacked from their posts over the alleged March 8 encounter that killed Mayor Ronaldo Aquino, and the alleged blunder committed by the local police intelligence chief whose letter to the local court for the names of lawyers representing people linked to communist rebels went viral in the social media.

Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, Officer-In-Charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the reorganization at the Calabayog City Police Station is part of the effort to improve the investigation, intelligence and operational capabilities of the local police force amid the two controversial incidents that hit the local police force in just a span of one week.
Calbayog City police chief LtCol. Neil Montaño has been relieved of his post following the shooting incident he led that resulted in the death of Calbayog City mayor Ronaldo Aquino, as well as the reported misconduct of his intelligence unit chief.
