The Ste. Genevieve High School boys’ basketball team didn’t have much time to dwell on last Friday’s 18-point divisional road loss to North County.
That’s because the Dragons were right back at it on Saturday evening playing non-league Jefferson R-7 at Peggy J. Johnson Gymnasium.
“It wouldn’t be my first choice,” said head coach Robert Coleman of such a quick turnaround, “because I knew North County on Friday would be tough. I knew it would be a physical game.
I guess on the other hand, it makes you move past the loss and not sit around and think about it all weekend.”

PARK HILLS Coming into Sechrest Tournament, the Ste. Genevieve High School boys’ basketball team was scheduled to play Arcadia Valley.
However, COVID-19 (coronavirus) forced Arcadia Valley out of the longtime event, and that put the Dragons in the uneasy position of playing host Central’s junior varsity unit.
All sorts of scenarios on the outcome of the game danced in Ste. Genevieve head coach Robert Coleman’s mind.
In the end, the Dragons downed the Rebels 81-50 in front of an expected decidedly partisan crowd at Foulon Field House.
“I’m glad we were able to pull away, and all 12 guys played and scored,” Coleman said, sounding relieved.
