This was the third time government forces battled enemies in Northern Luzon this week.
Lt. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., commander of the Northern Luzon Command (NoLCom), identified the slain rebel as Rudy Daguitan alias “Pinpin,” the alleged political officer of Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) Baggas of Ilocos – Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) based in Kalinga.
Burgos said that elements of the 50th Infantry Battalion received an intelligence information about the presence of suspected NPAs in Barangay Gawa-an, prompting them to conduct a security operation.
While patrolling the area, the soldiers spotted an undetermined number of armed men which triggered a firefight.
