Jeep says it is launching its new 4xe plug-in hybrid with two models and the 2021 Wrangler Sahara 4xe will have a $47,995 base sticker, while the Rubicon will start at $51,695. Both prices are before the available $7,500 federal tax credit (prices exclude destination). For comparison, the standard Sahara starts at around $40,000 and a Rubicon about $42,000. The 4xes use a 2.0-liter turbo-four with a high-voltage, liquid-cooled motor generator, replacing the conventional alternator. There’s also a 400-volt, 17-kWh, 96-cell lithium-ion, nickel manganese cobalt battery pack. Total output is a Hemi-esque 375 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, good enough for a 6 second 0-60 mph time. Jeep says the Wranglers should get 50 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe).
