OTHELLO – Othello reached the Central Washington Athletic Conference district final for the third consecutive season after mounting a comeback against Selah on Thursday, defeating the Vikings 3-2 in overtime.
“We had a really slow start in the first 15 minutes,” Othello Head Coach Bernie Garza said. “There was no energy, but in the last 20 minutes, we were on fire. The guys were motivated, the guys were excited, firing on all cylinders. We were still down 2-1, but we found a way to get the second goal.”
OTHELLO – Even with one game remaining on the schedule, the Othello boys soccer team locked up a second-place finish in the Central Washington Athletic Conference, giving the Huskies a first-round bye in next week’s district tournament.
Othello finished second to East Valley (Yakima) for the second straight season.
OTHELLO – After Grandview tied the game with a goal in the final minutes of the second half, the Othello Huskies answered in penalties to defeat the Greyhounds 3-2 and advance to next week’s Central Washington Athletic Conference championship game.
“It feels good knowing that we beat Grandview,” Othello junior Anthony Abundiz said. “They were the team that we had to beat, and we beat them.” .
OTHELLO The Huskies’ 5-1 win over Selah on Saturday marked the team’s seventh win in their previous eight outings, priming them for a run at the No. 2 seed in the Central Washington Athletic Conference tournament in May.
Othello, now 9-4-1 on the year, controls its own destiny, earning a bye and hosting a district playoff game.
