Lite Hash Rate RTX 3060 tested, Ethereum mining performance halved

Earlier this month, Nvidia confirmed plans to re-introduce the RTX 3060, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 with ‘Lite Hash Rate’ GPU revisions to reduce crypto-mining performance and get more graphics cards into the hands of PC gamers. Now, these LHR graphics cards are starting to land in the hands of users and Ethereum mining performance has been tested.  Chinese hardware site, Expreview, got their hands on an LHR version of the RTX 3060. This was originally the first graphics card to utilise Nvidia’s anti-mining tech, but a beta driver unlocked full Ethereum mining performance shortly after launch. This new revision solves that issue with additional measures in place.

NVIDIA announces Lite Hash Rate anti-mining refresh for all desktop RTX 30 series cards bar the GeForce RTX 3090

NVIDIA announces Lite Hash Rate anti-mining refresh for all desktop RTX 30 series cards bar the GeForce RTX 3090 The RTX 3080 is one of four RTX 30 series cards to receive the LHR treatment. (Image source: NVIDIA) NVIDIA has committed to releasing Lite Hash Rate versions of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080. The RTX 3090 remains unaffected, but all other desktop RTX 30 series cards shipping from this month onwards will be capped at half their theoretical ETH hash rates. Internet of Things (IoT), iOS, Wearable, Ticker  NVIDIA has announced in a press release that it plans to re-release the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 with a halved hash rate. GALAX confirmed as much last week, as we reported. Incidentally, NVIDIA s announcement confirms claims made by @kopite7kimi in February.

PNY RTX 3060 XLR8 Gaming Review

170W Despite utilising GA106 silicon, RTX 3060 isn’t actually a full implementation of the GPU, as it has 28 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) instead of 30. Currently only RTX 3060 for laptops uses the full GPU. For the desktop chip, 28 SMs means a total of 3584 CUDA Cores, as thanks to Ampere’s new SM structure with its two FP32 datapaths, each SM houses 128 CUDA cores. Ampere also places one RT core, and four Tensor cores, in each SM, giving a total of 28 RT cores and 112 Tensor cores. This is accompanied by 112 texture units, and 48 ROPs which are now housed directly within each graphics processing cluster (GPC), with 16 ROPs per GPC, and 3 GPCs in total for RTX 3060.

Galax is also releasing the RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti with anti-mining capabilities

It looks like Galax won’t only release RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 cards with the crypto mining limiter. Recently, the company added RTX 3060 and the RTX 3060 Ti graphics cards with the ‘FG’ naming to their website, which means they have their Ethereum mining performance halved. From what we’ve gathered, the Galax ‘FG’ cards will feature Nvidia GPUs with the new crypto mining limiter (LHR). Galax’s new RTX 3060 Ti FG models come with the GA104-202 GPU, which has a crypto mining performance of about 25MH/s. The new RTX 3060 cards are equipped with the GA106-302 chip capable of mining Ethereum at 25 MH/s.
