GKN Aerospace and GA-ASI Expand Partnership on MQ-9B SkyGuardian
(24 Feb 2021) General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) and GKN Aerospace have signed a contract for GKN to manufacture the advanced composite V-tails for GA-ASI’s new MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) from their Cowes facility in the United Kingdom.
SkyGuardian is the baseline system of the UK Royal Air Force’s (RAF) Protector RG Mk1 and has also been selected by Belgian Defence and the Australian Defence Force.

AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), today announced it has acquired Progeny Systems Corporationâs Intelligent Systems Group (ISG), a leader in the development of artificial intelligence-enabled computer vision, machine learning and perceptive autonomy technologies and provider of related services to United States government customers. The acquisition will significantly accelerate AeroVironmentâs development of advanced autonomy capabilities for the companyâs growing portfolio of intelligent, multi-domain robotic systems, increase customer-funded research and development revenue and broaden its advanced engineering services offering to defense and commercial customers. Under the terms of the transaction, AeroVironment acquired ISG for $30 million in cash and an earnout for Progeny Systems Corporation of up to $6 million over three years, based on the achievement of specific performance targets.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. Grand Sky Development Company, LLC (Grand Sky) has entered into lease agreements with four tenants to occupy the entirety of the new Multi-Tenant Building 1 (MT1) at the business and aviation park. The tenants include General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc., Northern Plains UAS Test Site, Grand Sky Airfield Operations, LLC and Innovets Aerospace.
The Northern Plains UAS Test Site has signed a 10-year lease in the MT1 building at Grand Sky and has plans to use the space as the headquarters and operations center for Vantis, the statewide Beyond Visual Line of Site Network (BVLOS). Northern Plains UAS Test Site and Grand Sky have collaborated numerous times on multiple projects in support of medium and large UAS operations.
