Keep getting tested
The battle to contain an outbreak of the South African variant of Covid-19 in the capital is underway in several boroughs. We continue to urge Londoners from affected postcodes to get tested, in order to protect themselves and our city from this strain of the virus.
While health officials believe the South African strain may be more resistant to our current set of jabs, crucially they are still thought to offer significant protection against severe disease.
So when offered, people should continue to get vaccinated. It is good to see South Londoners keeping calm and carrying on queueing. Surge testing is something we are likely to be dealing with for many months if not the next year in order to squash outbreaks. It is also an important challenge for our ailing test and trace system.

Mr Jobson continued: He s not in a great state at the moment, it seems. The longest he s ever been in hospital is for about 11 days or so. That was for a hip operation and he came walking out. So this is already two weeks, and extending beyond that to the end of the week.
