[laughter] this is a great tribute to a robust and resilient american institution. So, lets also say thank you to Joseph Pulitzer who created these prizes. It is a very hard thing to win a pulitzer. It is hard even to become one of the finalists. Hundreds and hundreds of entries arrive in new york each year for prizes given in journalism, literature, and the arts. Volunteer juries of experts spend days winnowing down the entries. The Board Members read every finalists entry and vote on a winner. It is with great pleasure then to present to you these

District of columbia, with the hope that other cities would follow the example. Ms. Johnson beautification, to my mind, is far more than a matter of cosmetics. To me, it describes the effort to bring the Natural World and manmade world and harmony, into harmony, to bring youthfulness to life to our poll environment. Hole in bierman. Wholele in environment. Narrator after the president ial elections in 1964, mrs. Lyndon johnson felt it would be most effective is the nations first lady to concentrate her efforts in a few major areas of concern. During a meeting at the lbj ranch, mrs. Johnson was urged by the secretary of the interior to share her lifelong interest in one of these areas con certification and beautification. Putting this into practice would require organization and hard work. D to make herwante adopted hometown an example for others to follow. Washington, d. C. Would be a showcase for the nation.
