For the study, the researchers from Hasiru Dala identified the landfill type and then calculated the avoided emissions from the disposal sites. Thereafter, they calculated the avoided emissions due to substitution of raw materials through recycling and the contributed emissions from transportation practices of DWCC in collecting dry waste. Lastly, the avoided emissions due to less energy-intensive sorting or preprocessing were calculated.
