The National Selection for Romania’s song at Eurovision kicks off today with Roxen set to record several potential Eurovision entries in the coming weeks. The demo versions of the songs will be sent to the special jury, who will evaluate all received entries and make their deliberation.
The Romanian national broadcaster has decided to scrap the live television show given the current circumstances caused by the pandemic and the social distancing restrictions implemented. Hence TVR will be able to provide more resources for Roxen’s staging in Rotterdam.

As all Eurovision fans know, the “
vision” part of the contest is almost as important as the song itself. With a plethora of lights, effects and pyrotechnics at their disposal, every country dreams of an iconic staging moment that will make the public pick up their phones and impress the juries. In short, the staging can make or break a song.
For Eurovision 2020 of course, those dreams were dashed. All we were left with were staging blueprints, and winks towards staging ambitions from music videos and national selection performances. The thought of what might have been never rang truer, as we were promised some incredible performances.
Eurovision wouldn’t be Eurovision without the gorgeous staging to match the music. It’s sad that the 41 fantastic songs of Eurovision 2020 didn’t get the justice of presentation on the big stage. It didn’t mean they didn’t get their moment in the spotlight, however, as they were all performed in the comfortable homes of the Eurovision stars. It’s not common that we get to see the places where our musicians live and work, and it is certainly worthy of merit. There’s nothing more special than the space a musician makes their magic happen!

Maybe not the mixture of dazzling and disastrous we’re used to, but fashion nonetheless. There’s something extremely charming about seeing our Eurovision stars in their favourite home clothes.

While our time in lockdown might have had less ballgowns and more dressing gowns, our Eurovision stars still sported some memorable looks. Gjon’s Tears showed off his set of collared shirts. Ulrikke brought the plaid and cowgirl vibe. Past Eurovision stars Slavko Kalezic and Maruv also sported memorable looks for their lockdown performances.
Most Uplifting Message at
When
Europe Shine A Light showcased all 41 of the would-have-been Eurovision 2020 entries, they made special effort to give each artist time to share a message for their country as well as their fans across the continent. Our Class of ’20 treated us to jingles we can wash our hands to, reminded us to look after our mental health, and encouraged us to discover new hobbies and skills in lockdown. But whose lockdown message lifted your spirits more than any other?
