2021 Colt Sale Raises Over $200,000 for Natural Horsemanship Program
The University of Montana Western’s Fifth Annual Colt Challenge and Sale, held April 2 and 3 at the Montana Center for Horsemanship, broke previous sale records by generating more than $200,000 for the UMW Natural Horsemanship Program. Highest-selling colt, RSR Easy Playguns pictured above, sold for $19,000 to Karen Murphy from Old Chatham, NY at the annual Colt Sale held April 3 at the Montana Center for Horsemanship. RSR Easy Playguns was the overall champion in the Colt Challenege held on April 2. Rider and trainer Jacob Christenson was awarded a $2,500 scholarship for placing first.
The Natural Horsemanship Program, which educates students to work with young horses as part of a broad range of equine and other academic studies, is a joint program of the University of Montana Western and the Montana Center for Horsemanship. UMW Postpones Spring Rodeo Banquet and adds Fall BBQ Event
After careful consideration, Montana Western has decided to postpone our in-person spring community rodeo banquet event scheduled for spring 2021. Although we are anxious to thank our supporters in person and share the success of the fall rodeo season, we also feel this is the best decision based on the current recommendations for hosting large events. Our priority is keeping our students, campus, and community safe and healthy.

MTN News continues our look at Experience One on the Montana Western campus.
Recently, the University of Montana Western Foundation received a $250,000 donation from Steve and Gretchen Burke, and on Monday we talked with Chancellor Beth Weatherby and Foundation Director Roxanne Engellant about the effect of this size donation on the Experience One program.
Chancellor Weatherby also spoke about how it feels to be leaving the program she championed on solid footing, since she announced earlier this year that she is retiring the end of this school year.
