The Round Rock City Council on Thursday night approved $84.7 million in debt to pay for road improvements, a convention center and public infrastructure at Kalahari Resorts.  City officials said the five debt issuances will be backed by property taxes that were rated AAA the highest rate possible by S&P Global.  Our excellent bond ratings mean we can borrow these critical funds at the lowest possible cost, said Mayor Craig Morgan. The money we re investing in infrastructure and major economic development partnerships will have an even greater return because of the city s outstanding financial stewardship.

Round Rock City Council votes to end local coronavirus mask mandate, rule expires April 22

Round Rock City Council votes to end local coronavirus mask mandate, rule expires April 22 The Round Rock City Council on Thursday voted to officially end the citywide face covering requirement to fall more in line with Gov. Greg Abbott s executive order last month ending the statewide mask order.  The council had voted to extend the city s emergency ordinance requiring face coverings through April 29 in businesses and other locations as part of the effort to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. However, the ordinance will now expire at midnight on April 22.  The ordinance, which first passed unanimously during an emergency meeting on June 29, required those 10 and older to wear face coverings in public places when social distancing is not possible. It also required businesses to display a notice of the requirement.

Round Rock City Council approves agreement for Old Settlers Park project

The Round Rock City Council on Thursday night approved a $122,944.58 agreement to purchase two custom metal shade structures at Old Settlers Park. The metal structures are part of creating a plaza and a terraced seating area with swings and lounge chairs that will overlook Bright Lake. Officials said the two pergolas will be placed in the northern section of Old Settlers Park in a spot that will be called Yonders Point. Parks and Recreation Director Rick Atkins said none of the money spent on the pergolas will come from general fund dollars, but from the Lower Colorado River Authority funding that was received as a reimbursement for the public utility running transmission lines through Round Rock parks.
