Jamaican filmmaker breaks ground at Rotterdam Lab

Nadean Rawlins will be learning, sharing and connecting with producers from 40 countries at the Lab and at the related Cinemart film market (the international co-production market component of the festival). Jamaican producer Nadean Rawlins will be the first person from the island to participate in the Rotterdam Lab training event, which is held to empower the world’s most promising emerging producers. Rotterdam Lab is managed by the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR), an international film festival that focuses on independent and experimental filmmaking. Rawlins’ participation will begin on January 25, 2021. Rotterdam Unveils 2021 CineMart Projects | Hollywood Reporter

Beza Hailu Lemma Rotterdam’s co-production market will run online Feb. 1-Feb. 5 as part of the festival s IFFR Pro Days for industry professionals.  The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has unveiled the 17 in-development projects selected for its 2021 co-production market CineMart.  The typically cosmopolitan and eclectic slate of in-development projects that will be pitching for financiers and co-producers at CineMart 2021 include features from Brazil to Iran, and from Ethiopia to Ecuador. The German director Nele Wohlatz, whose The Future Perfect won the best first feature honor at the 2016 Locarno film festival, will bring her latest, ¿Duermen los peces con los ojos abiertos?, already backed by the IFFR s Hubert Bals Fund, to Rotterdam. The project is an Argentine, Brazilian, Dutch, German co-production from Ruda Cine, CinemaScópio, Circe Films, and Blinker Filmproduktion.

I Can Hear Your Voice… Still and Jordanian director Bassel Ghandour’s drama The Alleys, have led the awards at the Cairo Film Connection, the co-financing platform of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF). Eleven projects in development and four works in post-production were showcased at the event which meted out prizes from some 19 organisations worth $250,000 in total I Can Hear Your Voice… Still won the $10,000 Arab Radio Television (ART) prize, a $10,000 cash award from Egyptian production and distribution company Red Star Films, as well as participation in an online development support programme from the Los Angeles-based Film Independent. It also won a further two awards offering promotional and marketing support.
