Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record Aviation services company wants to hire more mechanics, technicians An aviation services company has received additional state job training money for its Roswell operations to hire up to 20 more people in the next 12 months, as the company’s general manager says that CAVU continues to experience growth in its local customer base. The funding decision was made by the New Mexico Job Training Incentive program board during its Friday meeting. Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corp. and its President Michael Espiritu supported the funding, with Espiritu saying that he is “encouraged by their new job growth.” CAVU Aerospace is an aircraft maintenance, storage and dismantling operation certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. It has mobile teams and operates in facilities in Stuttgart, Arkansas; Victorville, California; Mesa, Arizona; and the Roswell Air Center.

(Juno Ogle Photo) Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record Seven months after its inception, the Airport Authority Steering Committee recommended against the formation of an independent governing authority that would take ownership and management of the Roswell Air Center. The committee instead recommended the city partner with Chaves County in the Air Center’s management. The recommendation comes just a little over two years after Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law House Bill 227, introduced into the House of Representatives and the Senate by legislators representing Roswell.

The Airport Authority Steering Committee report has been placed on the agenda for the Roswell City Council Legal Committee meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday. The meeting will occur at the Roswell Convention Center, 912 N. Main St. Due to continued COVID-19 restrictions, the public is asked to participate online. The city plans to stream the video live on its website, www.roswell-nm.gov., and also lists options on its meeting agenda about how people can participate through an online and phone software application.
