Based on the OI percentage, 135 stocks were on the short-covering list. These included Coforge, HDFC, Tata Consumer Products, Vodafone Idea, and City Union Bank.
BSE Sensex jumped more than 311 points, or 0.52 per cent, to close at 60,157.72, while the NSE's Nifty 50 added 98.25 points, or 0.56 per cent, to 17,722.30 for the day.
The 30-share BSE Sensex pack edged 14 points or 0.02 per cent to close at 59,847; while the broader NSE Nifty index moved 25 points or 0.14 per cent up to settle at 17,624. Mid and smallcap shares finished on a strong note, with the Nifty Midcap 100 up 0.38 per cent and Nifty Smallcap 100 rising 0.28 per cent.
The benchmark equity index BSE Sensex inched higher by 0.7 per cent in the last 12 months till March 2023, while the broader indices BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap declined 0.2 per cent and 4.5 per cent, respectively, during the same period. The BSE 500 index also retreated 2.30 per cent in FY2023.
As per BSE data, on Monday, the listed companies market cap in total stood at over ₹258.56 lakh crore. This is lower by over ₹4.38 lakh crore compared to the previous day s print of ₹262.94 lakh crore.
