Solar facilities abound now and future in Highland County

The village of Greenfield may soon find itself sandwiched between two solar panel farms with the recent approval of the proposed 435-acre Fayette Solar facility.
The Fayette County Board of Zoning Appeals recently voted 3-2 in favor of allowing the new solar panel farm to be built on leased land across the Highland/Fayette County line north of Greenfield.
The local approval of Fayette Solar comes weeks after plans were announced to build the 120-megawatt Ross County Solar facility southeast of Greenfield across the Highland/Ross County line.

Ross County Solar would occupy approximately 1,400 acres between SR 41 and Rapid Forge Road.

The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) will hold a public hearing regarding Ross County Solar, LLC’s proposal to construct a 120 megawatt solar farm located on approximately 1,433 acres in Buckskin and Paint townships in Ross County. The hearing will be conducted using Cisco Webex, a web-based platform that facilitates participation by telephone or live video on the internet.
The public hearing will be held on April 6, 2021, beginning at 6 p.m. The purpose of the public hearing is to allow residents in the local community, who are not parties to the case, to provide testimony about the project. Testimony will be limited to five minutes per witness, and the hearing transcript will become part of the case record considered by the OPSB.
