Childminders, nurseries and playgroups in the Thornbury have received £1,000 worth of games and books. The donation has been made by Tracey Gardiner, owner of Thornbury gift and toy shop Rosie & Rex, and Orchard Toys. The children’s educational games company marked 25 years of its game Shopping List with a special competition. Shoppers buying the limited-edition box could enter a free prize draw, and state where they purchased their game, so retailers could be entered into a separate free draw to win of £500 worth of Orchard Toys products. Rosie & Rex won and, after Tracey decided to donate her prize, Orchard Toys decided to match it.
Thornbury will be decked out in lights again next Christmas thanks to a successful fundraising campaign. Last year s switch-on event was cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, meaning Thornbury Christmas Lights Association (TCLA) missed out on a chance to raise money. But, thanks to the generosity of the Thornbury community, the group has nearly hit their £1,000 target on a fundrasiing page set up last year. A TCLA spokesperson said: We at Thornbury Christmas Lights Association would like the extend our gratitude to the residents of Thornbury and the surrounding towns for their support through our JustGiving page. Because of the community s generosity, we have raised £950 which will ensure that Thornbury is shining during the next festive period.
