more. they said they were blind sided by the time line. what s the intention here and can democrats stick to that time line? reporter: the majority leader chuck schumer sending a clear message it s crunch time. this bipartisan group has been working several months. he s arguing it is time to put together a bill because we are ready to go to the floor. there is a limited legislative calendar on capitol hill. schumer knows he has a lot to get done in the month of july before the month-long august recess which, of course, is already potentially in jeopardy if they can t get their job done. what schumer is trying to do is leverage his ability as the leader on the floor. meanwhile republicans say they feel squeezed. we talked to rosh portman and mitt romney, key republicans in this group. they said they re not going to vote yes on a procedural vote as soon as wednesday which is when schumer is scheduling it. if you don t have a bill, that would be irresponsible. that is a key point democr
manipulate our kumpx si and we play by the rules and we have labor regulations and environmental regulations and those are, i think, good things and things that working people need in this country. but what we don t have is a government that continually looks after our backs. i will say on this particular steel issue, this is an issue that actually, sharon brown, rosh portman, the former bush administration ustr, 57 senators signed a letter say we got to look out for our pipe and tube makers. ted cruz, john cornyn didn t sign it. texas is the number one state. i ll be in loan star texas where they make good pipe and tube on monday and we ll rally support and get texans to say no matter what party you are you got to in american jobs and you got to support american manufacturing and wrap yourselves in the flag to support american workers. but you got to sign your narm to a piece of paper to show you really mean it, i think.
