Jubilee Party members in Mt Kenya have been discussing possible changes to its parliamentary leadership after the explosive letter by Senate Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata advising a rethink of Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
On Tuesday, what was said to be a high-level think tank of the mainstream JP in Mt Kenya region held a four-hour meeting at a hotel in Nairobi to brainstorm on the bleeding triggered by “Kang’ata’s letter.”
The meeting, attended by about 15 people, was chaired by National Assembly deputy Chief Whip Maoka Maore (Igembe North) and saw intense discussions centred around salvaging the BBI in the region.

The victory of Independent candidate Feisal Bader in the just concluded Msambweni by-election sent shockwaves in the political circles.
Bader floored ODM s Omar Boga who was touted to bag the seat fueling a growing trend of voters overlooking party affiliations to elect independent candidates at the expense of political party candidates who have well-oiled mobilisation machinery.
Another surprise victory was witnessed in the Gitura MCA by-election where a former NTV correspondent Esther Mwihaki, an independent candidate, managed to defeat favourite Jubilee candidate Rosemary Wakuthie

Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, alleged that Jubilee party has lost influence in the Mount Kenya region. Speaking to
Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, December 17, 2020, the legislator stated that losses by Jubilee on December 15, by-elections were an indication of the ruling party s dwindling support in Central Kenya. Jubilee has lost grip of Mt Kenya completely. People s Empowerment Party (PEP) is the future, Kuria, PEP s party leader claimed.
Kuria, a member of the Jubilee Party fielded candidates in the December 2020 by-elections held in Mt Kenya, challenging the party that got him elected to Parliament.
Others vying are Hanningtone Onyango (Movement for Democratic Growth), David Ayieko (Kadu-Asili) and independent candidates Dan Osila, Joshua Ogada and Walter Okello.
At Wachira Youth Polytechnic, only 120 voters had cast their votes out of the 591 registered voters by mid-day.
At Bar Union Primary School, 214 of the over 1,500 registered voters had voted by 10am.

Kisumu North ward has 16,000 registered voters, 30 polling stations and 15 polling centres.
At the Coast, besides the low voter turnout in Wundanyi-Mbale Ward, there were claims of voter bribery.
Matuga MP Kasim Tandaza claimed some candidates were bribing voters across various polling stations on the outskirts of Wundanyi town.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has issued a statement narrating how violent events in Kahawa Wendani forced him to abandon his planned meetings.
On Tuesday night, December 8, the legislator claimed to have been alerted about the presence of people armed with crude weapons.
According to his statement, the armed thugs had stationed themselves across the perimeter of the venue he was set to visit
“Today I was forced to cancel two scheduled meetings with the residents of Kahawa Wendani ward in Ruiru, Kiambu County,” he disclosed.
