North-east councillor highlights pandemic mental health issues

North-east councillor highlights pandemic mental health issues © SYSTEM A north-east councillor has added her voice to calls for increased mental health support. Rosemary Bruce, who represents the Banchory and Mid-Deeside ward, has given her backing to calls to declare a mental health emergency in Scotland. It came as MSPs at Holyrood yesterday debated services across the country during the pandemic and the Scottish Government confirmed a multi-million-pound funding package to provide support. The Scottish Liberal Democrat members argued that it is essential for Parliament to recognise this so that services and interventions can be ramped up to meet the challenge.

Nicola Sturgeon minister urged to give groveling apology - rivals exposes huge snub

The Scottish Lib Dems asked a Holyrood question about the number of visits Christina McKelvie made to care homes since March 2020. The response read: “The Minister for Older People has made no physical or virtual visits to care homes since March 2020.” They also asked for meetings she had with staff, residents or their relatives, representatives of industry body Scottish Care or groups who were representing families. It said the Minister had attended just one meeting with a group representing OAPs’ families in October but was a guest of Health Secretary Jeane Freeman.   Christina McKelvie attended just one meeting as a guest of another minister (Image: Getty)

READERS LETTERS: Delivery of Covid-19 vaccine is at best lamentable

© PA Sir, – The delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine throughout Scotland to date can at best be described as lamentable and at worst pathetic. When considered in association with a hospital long in gestation and not fit for purpose, and drug deaths at an all-time high through self-admitted failure, how can the current Scottish Government be deemed competent in matters of health? The perception is of a Scottish Government health team swamped by events beyond a level of competence which they possess. They can spin the bottle hoping it points in shifting the blame to anyone but themselves, but eventually the bottle will land pointing at those who ultimately bear the responsibility.
