Faceless but Seen
According to the artist, Katherine Chilcote, the featured faces are recovering from homelessness, are formerly homeless, or chose to have their faces painted to make a public statement. “We so often feature fame and power without realizing the unique gifts and beauty in every person,” she observes. “The faces looking out to Prospect Avenue each have unique stories of recovery, transformation and birth.” It begs the question: Do we have it in our hearts to see all of our community members – homeless, systems-impacted or otherwise – through a lens of humanity?

In the August 2018 issue of the San Francisco Bay View, Kheven LaGrone wrote an article that addressed the need for California to pass hate crime laws that protect the homeless. I was deeply moved by this article and felt compelled to add my voice to this conversation.
floods soaked whole communities. take a look. this video is incredible and frightening. a tornado in tuscaloosa, alabama, caught on tape. dozens of buildings are completely levelled. homes gone. rick stands on what s left in that city. rick? hey, guys. yeah, stuck in one little spot and i want to make sure everybody knows this is such a broad problem and broad story for so many people. just across the street from where we were earlier, just gone through and still going through this neighborhood doing search and rescue so they mark the buildings, not so sure that nobody is in them. but you got to take a look back here. this is a rosedale community. and we re not talking about a structure down or a couple of structures down. we re talking about structure after structure, home after home that is completely destroyed, cars that are blown out. buildings down and notice these are all brick and block
