it says if the cosby show helped pave the way for barack obama s election, it might be said rose anne was a harbinger for trump s candidacy. the cosby show was about an affluent black family. roseanne about a working class white family. do tv shows like those give americans a glimpse of other people s lives? i think they do. seeing that representation of yourself on television is meaningful. you know, whether you re a minority and now you have a show like blackish or off the boat you can feel you identify with. hollywood is generally pretty disconnected from the white working class. there are a handful of shows on television right now that feature them. but for the most part, a lot of tv is aspirational. a lot of people supposed to be middle class on tv if you notice live in houses that look more like buckingham palace than the typical middle class. roseanne s family lives in a
