Traffic fatalities on Staten Island streets have crept back up over the past two years, following three straight years of decline, prompting transportation advocates to call for safer street designs throughout the borough. In 2020, there were 11 traffic fatalities on Staten Island, three more than the eight traffic fatalities the borough saw in 2019 and four more from the seven traffic fatalities in 2018, according to the Department of Transportation (DOT).
