Shortly before Notre Dame played Clemson in a College Football Playoff semifinal in 2018, coach Brian Kelly complained that the Fighting Irish were being unfairly judged for what had happened six years earlier. We re still being compared to what happened in 2012, fair or unfair, Kelly said at the time, referring to Notre Dame s 42-14 loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship played after the 2012 season. We need to set a new kind of parameter there.

PASADENA (CNS) - Friday s Rose Bowl Game won t be in Pasadena, but it ll still be the Rose Bowl.
The city of Pasadena and the Tournament of Roses, which own the name “Rose Bowl, announced Wednesday they have officially agreed to allow the moniker to be used for the Alabama-Notre Dame matchup, which will be played in Arlington, Texas.
The College Football Playoff game was moved out of Pasadena after the state refused to allow any fans to attend the game due to surging COVID-19 cases. It will mark only the second time the Rose Bowl hasn t been played in Pasadena, the first occurring following the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, prompting a move of the game to Durham, North Carolina.

For the past few weeks, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has argued that teams should be rewarded for playing games during a season disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and that teams that started later than others and didn t play as many games should be penalized by the College Football Playoff selection committee.
While the selection committee ultimately decided the Ohio State were among the sport s four best teams, Swinney apparently didn t when completing his final ballot in the coaches poll.
Swinney, whose No. 2 Tigers will play the No. 3 Buckeyes in a CFP semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Year s Day (8 p.m. ET, ESPN/ESPN App), had Ohio State ranked No. 11 on his final ballot lowest of any of the 61 FBS head coaches who voted in the poll.
